It has been 8 months since the first cohort left the family to fight in the real world without having the ,big mama’ behind the back. After 8 months of being under the spotlight, eight teams (first cohort ever) graduated from Wayra CEE at the end of February 2014. Since then, the development of the product was absolutely up to them. Yes, it may be harsh – and that’s why we want to hear all the details. We got in touch with the teams and asked them a few questions to get a better picture of what happens when you leave an accelerator, what are their plans for the future and how the whole program helped them building the product. To sum up: The eight chosen startups were given the residency of 8 months to grow their startup into a real business and investment up to 40 000 euros. On top of that, they had access to know-how through international mentors and coaches and possibility to reach 300 million Telefónica customers. With fourteen Wayra offices all over the world; and more than 318 startups in the portfolio, it offers much broader network and experience than other accelerators. Wayra CEE was opened in the summer of 2013 with the objective to build a center of innovative ICT projects for the whole Central and Eastern Europe region.
DATAMOLINO - provides the benefits of large enterprise solutions in the area of invoice processing to accountants servicing the SMEs “Our CTO Michal Paulovic has joined the team. As for the product, we have two distinct offerings. Datamolino Folder is our archiving solution for individuals and SMEs; and Datamolino Assistant harnesses the full extraction and export ability of the software for accountants and their firms. Our first customers are satisfied and telling us that they’re saving a lot of time automating their data extraction. It’s fantastic that Datamolino is being used and is working as we’d planned! Before leaving Wayra we were developing every facet of our business from the ground up. Wayra provided a vast network of support, so we could do our research well and make the best decisions possible. Since then we’ve launched our fully functional SaaS with paying customers. Now we’re in the continual process of listening to our users and improving Datamolino. Currently, we are working towards launching internationally throughout Europe and overseas. Later in the year we look forward to exhibiting at the Dublin Web Summit.” BIG LAUNCHER - an alternative Android user interface optimized for people with poor eyesight and technically challenged users.
We have introduced alternative layouts, so BIG Launcher is now compatible not only with larger phones and tablets, but also with the smart watches. We have managed to be the “Featured app” in the Google Play Store again and recently we’ve closed a deal with the Czech famous senior phones brand Aligator. They’ve already sold several hundreds of phones with BIG Launcher pre-installed – this is the simplest way of getting the easy to use smartphone in the Czech Republic now. We’re already in the market when we came to Wayra, so there isn’t any big noticeable change. We keep improving the app and adding more features and options. Right now, we have almost 500 000 downloads of the free version and 20 000 downloads of the full version. Now we are focusing more and more on the business side — looking for the B2B partners and closing the multi-licensing deals with them.” TRASH OUT
- A mobile solution used to report and monitor illegal dumps all over the world. “We got a new team mate Robert Barcik on board. The biggest challenge since we left Wayra was to decide where to stay, get a productive office space and find activities or mentors. On the other hand, customers are satisfied with our product. I would like to point out the success of the work done by Michal Klacko and Robert Barcik and the TrashOut promotion done by Peter Celko with Lyoness Greenfinity. We are steadily growing our customer base. In Wayra, we gained knowledge and reprioritized things. Our current goal is to 1) get 50 paying customers on board and 2) attract new investors until December 2014. LIONEXPO - provide a mobile app & web portal that helps event organizers to provide smarter and more personalized exhibition experience by collecting online & on-site data on visitor and exhibitor behavior, analyzing it in real time and providing the participants with personalized recommendations
Martin Smolka knows Wayra better than anybody else because he spent there long time during both of the cohorts. “I am very proud to be in Wayra for following reasons. The office has an awesome location – in the center of Prague, and I also meet and interact with many visitors, speakers and mentors that are visiting the Academy on a daily basis. You can find great networking opportunities here. In the beginning, Wayra helped us a lot with the money and branding — it is a strong brand that opens many doors just because it gives you credibility. We see our future in expansion. We want to explore new markets and expand our business. We’re thinking about US, Germany and Asia because there is simply not enough events in the Czech Republic or Slovakia. And these three areas have the biggest potential for us.”
